Nativa is born from the way Jean Leon understands the Penedès: a land to which one feels deeply connected and, at the same time, a constant source of inspiration to keep exploring, innovating, and evolving. Through wines that respect the origin, landscape, and identity of the region, Nativa brings together tradition and innovation, always keeping its roots in the land while looking towards the future.
Nativa Forcada is the first sparkling wine made from the Forcada grape variety, recovered from our territory and naturally resilient to the challenges of climate change.
A recovered
Variety
Forcada is a pre-phylloxera white grape variety recovered through the ancestral grape recovery project launched by Familia Torres more than 40 years ago, through which over 60 varieties have been identified.
It was discovered in 2005 on the slopes of Roca Forcada mountain (Girona) and officially authorised by the Penedès D.O. in 2017. Jean Leon embraced its potential and planted it on its estate in 2020.
With a long growing cycle and late ripening, it is naturally adapted to the challenges of climate change. It stands out for its vibrant acidity, remarkable freshness, and intense Mediterranean aromatic profile, featuring delicate notes of Mediterranean herbs, white flowers, and subtle citrus nuances.
Nativa Forcada
It displays a pale golden colour, bright and clean. On the nose, notes of green apple, white stone fruit, and citrus nuances stand out against a background of fine pastry and pronounced minerality. On the palate, it is characterised by a voluptuous entry, a fine and perfectly integrated mousse, a subtle saline touch, and excellent acidity that provides freshness, balance, and elegance.
A great recovery project
1983. The search for ancestral Catalan grape varieties and the recovery of genetic material begins, led by Familia Torres.
1986. The first microvinifications are carried out to evaluate the winemaking potential of the recovered varieties.
2017. The Penedès D.O. officially approves the Forcada and Moneu grape varieties.
2020. Jean Leon plants them in “La Serra” vineyard.
2026. Forcada is officially approved by the D.O Penedès for the production of sparkling wines under the Clàssic Penedès category.
