This year we celebrated the fifth edition of ViArt at Jean Leon, an event we hold each year where we pair wine with an artistic discipline. The theme chosen for 2018 was cinema, with a journey through the history of film, a field that had such an influence on the life of Jean Leon.

The 70 guests in attendance were welcomed with a glass of 3055 Rosé 2017 and 3055 Merlot-Petit Verdot 2016 and enjoyed a pleasant summer evening with stunning views of the vineyards.

With a glass in hand, after the introduction by Jean Leon’s director Mireia Torres, Jordi S. Bonet, president of the Josep M. Queraltó Collection and Film Classroom Foundation, gave an overview of the history of film using fascinating pieces and audiovisual materials from the Foundation’s collection. The items were chosen for their key role in forging the essence of cinema up to today and gave guests the opportunity to get a first-hand look at wonders such as a Gaumont 60mm camera and a Lumière brothers cinematograph used to film the first movie in Spain that is still in existence: La salida de misa de 12 de la Virgen del Pilar.

The presentation was followed by a cocktail dinner paired with the wines Vinya Gigi Chardonnay 2015 and Vinya Palau Merlot 2013 and featuring entertainment with live music by the Cécile Swing & Blues Trio. In addition, on this occasion guests were treated to a tasting of an exceptional vintage: an exclusive Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 1988 in a six-liter bottle.

To finish off this very special evening, there was an outdoor screening of “Josep M. Queraltó, a la recerca d’un somni” (“Josep M. Queraltó, in Search of a Dream”), a 30-minute documentary highlighting the need for and interest in having a film museum to hold all the cinematographic material of great historical and educational value that Josep M. Queraltó has been collecting with such reverence and dedication throughout his life.

Thus concluded the fifth edition of ViArt, an event that has now established itself as a landmark for wine and art lovers, which has focused on artistic disciplines such as music, painting, theater, dance, and now, the history of film. We look forward to seeing you at the next edition.

To health, wine, and art!
