Once again, our wines have been recognized at one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world, Mundus Vini, organized by the German publishing group Meininger Verlag. In its 35th edition of the Spring Tasting, oenologists, sommeliers, distributors, and specialized journalists took part in a blind tasting of thousands of wines from all over the world. The aim of the competition is to highlight and reward exceptional quality in winemaking.
At the event, which took place in March 2025, our winery was awarded for the outstanding quality of three of its wines: Vinya La Scala and Vinya Le Havre received gold medals, while Vinya Palau earned a silver medal.
Each of these wines captivated the jury with its unique character and exceptional balance:
Jean Leon Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2018: The flagship wine of the Jean Leon winery. It comes from a small 8-hectare plot of clay-limestone soils planted in 1963 by Jean Leon and winemaker Jaume Rovira. The wine is aged for at least 24 months in French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 3 years of bottle aging, refining its character and complexity.
Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre 2021: The name Le Havre refers to the French port where Jean Leon disembarked to begin his American dream. This wine comes from a 12-hectare vineyard planted in 1968 with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is aged for a minimum of 12 months in 225-liter French and American oak barrels, followed by at least two years of bottle aging.
Jean Leon Vinya Palau 2022: A 100% Merlot, this wine is aged for at least 6 months in French oak barrels, followed by another 6 months of bottle aging. Aware of its roots, Vinya Palau pays tribute to Jean Leon’s hometown, Santander, the starting point of a life full of achievements.
