We\u2019ve got something to celebrate at Jean Leon. Jean Leon Vinya Palau Merlot<\/strong><\/a>, one of our single vineyard wines, has been chosen by the Organization of Consumers and Users (Organizaci\u00f3n de Consumidores y Usuarios \u2013 OCU) as one of its seven best red wines in an article<\/strong><\/a> published recently. Paying tribute to great Spanish wines, they highlighted the wines named by their wine guide as the best reds between 2014 and 2020. In the case of Jean Leon Vinya Palau Merlot, it came in first place in the 2019 ranking with the 2015 vintage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

As some of you will already know, this is an organic wine, certified as a \u201cVi de Finca\u201d (Single Vineyard), made using Merlot grapes from vineyards planted 30 years ago on two different types of soil, clayey-chalky and sandy with gravel, covering a total area of 10 hectares. The wine spends 12 months aging in French oak barrels and a minimum of 6 months in the bottle. Its name Vinya Palau is a tribute to Santander, where Jean Leon was born as Ceferino Carri\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Besides the recognition from the OCU, Jean Leon Vinya Palau Merlot 2015 also received a gold medal at the prestigious Challenge International du Vin<\/strong><\/a>, the biggest and oldest wine competition held in France that celebrated its 44th<\/sup> edition this year. Our single vineyard wines Jean Leon Vinya Gigi Chardonnay 2017 and Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2013 also attained the highest distinction in this international competition. Moreover, our most iconic wine, Jean Leon Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva, has achieved important recognition as Spain\u2019s best Cabernet Sauvignon at the Vivino Style Awards 2020<\/strong><\/a>, a distinction it won with the 2012 vintage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

There have been 15 editions of the OCU\u2019s Wine Guide, a benchmark publication characterized by its rigorous comparative studies on quality.
