The coronavirus pandemic has meant that many people used to traveling beyond our borders will be swapping their vacations for \u201cstaycations\u201d and going on trips that are closer and more local. This is definitely good news for the tourism industry in Spain. While it\u2019s likely that foreign bookings will drop, domestic tourism will get a new lease on life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given this situation, and for those of you who still aren\u2019t sure what to do this summer, today we\u2019re going to suggest seven tourist destinations that are really worth considering. And we\u2019re also going to throw another variable in the mix: gastronomy. Suitcases at the ready, let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

San Sebasti\u00e1n<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This city is undoubtedly one of the gems of our country. It\u2019s full of charm and lots of attractions, one of which is the food. It\u2019s heaven for those who enjoy eating well, where you can do everything from treating your taste buds to Michelin-starred restaurants (Akelarre, Arzak, and Mart\u00edn Berasategui) to tucking into some pintxos<\/em> (small snacks, often served on top of a baguette slice), a juicy steak, or cod with peppers in the old part of the city. It\u2019s an unbeatable setting and if the temperature\u2019s right, La Concha beach is the best spot to take a dip in the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Santiago de Compostela<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The quality of Galician products, whether from the sea or the land, have made Santiago, as well as other Galician cities, a unique culinary destination. Mesones<\/em> (traditional inns), pulper\u00edas<\/em> (bars specializing in octopus), marisquer\u00edas<\/em> (seafood bars), and even churrasquer\u00edas<\/em> (steakhouses)\u2026 The range of options can\u2019t be beaten, with something for every palate and every budget, although it\u2019s undoubtedly the perfect destination for seafood lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Granada<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beautiful inside and out, this Andalusian city\u2019s culinary offering is essentially based around tapas and small plates, making it a spot-on destination for those who like to do a bit of bar hopping to enjoy some tapas and drinks in the company of friends or family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madrid<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the Spanish cities with the widest array of gastronomy. Like in San Sebasti\u00e1n, there are options ranging from sampling a tasting menu in three Michelin-starred restaurants, such as chef David Mu\u00f1oz\u2019s DiverXO, to grabbing a typical bocata de calamares<\/em> (sandwich with fried squid rings) by the Plaza Mayor or stopping for a classic lunchtime set menu featuring traditional stews such as callos a la madrile\u00f1a<\/em> (with tripe and sausage) or cocido madrile\u00f1o<\/em> (with chickpeas, meat, and vegetables).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valencia <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is impossible to think of the Valencian Community and that a good plate of paella doesn’t come to mind. Paella is possibly the most famous Spanish food in the world. And always the same question: What does the traditional paella have? The original recipe is prepared with all the Mediterranean ingredients: rice, chicken, rabbit, green beans, garraf\u00f3n (a type of bean), tomato, rosemary, saffron and olive oil. And of course, it comes cooked in a paella. If you have not visited La Terreta yet, you have it pending. 🙂<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sevilla <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like Granada, Seville claims to be one of the most famous cities for “tapas”. Every day, thousands of tourists arrives to the Andalusian capital to see La Giralda, La Torre del Oro and the Triana neighborhood, but also to enjoy a good gazpacho, the famous “fried fish” or bull tail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barcelona<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Catalan capital is one of the meccas of haute cuisine. Names such as Albert Adri\u00e0, Jordi Cruz, and Carme Ruscalleda have made Barcelona the perfect place for fans of Michelin-starred restaurants. But, as in other cities, the cuisine on offer doesn\u2019t end there. Pinchos<\/em>, patatas bravas<\/em>, and all kinds of tapas are also found among one of the world\u2019s best culinary offerings. And we can\u2019t forget La Boquer\u00eda, a market that\u2019s wonderful for wandering around and stopping for a bite here and there as you go! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re sure that you\u2019ve probably already visited some of these cities, but it\u2019s always nice to go back and see them again. And if you haven\u2019t been yet, now\u2019s as good a time as ever to discover them. Hop in the car and get ready to head off on your staycation.
