<\/p>\nNo one can deny that cell phones have now become an extension of people. It\u2019s hard to imagine going a whole day without one: no WhatsApp, no Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram… In short, a day without being \u201cconnected\u201d to the world. We live in a hyperconnected world, and cell phones are a fundamental and essential tool for communicating. But while that is true, it\u2019s also true that we sometimes abuse them. Why? Because of the need to be up to date, to be connected, or simply so you don\u2019t feel like you\u2019re missing out on anything.<\/p>\n

If we look at some data from recent studies about the use of cell phones and new technologies, one prominent figure is that we spend an average of 5 hours connected to WhatsApp. Does that surprise you? Some of you yes, and others no, probably. At any rate, that\u2019s a statistic that can give us something to reflect on: Of those five hours, how many were worthwhile or useful? Surely less than half.<\/p>\n
Since that\u2019s the case, and since we\u2019re aware that living in the Information Age means that standing on the sidelines of new technologies wouldn\u2019t make sense either, at Jean Leon we created an online campaign for this holiday season using the hashtag #JeanLeonConnectsYou<\/strong>. The concept is based around our excessive daily use of mobile devices. Doesn\u2019t it still surprise you to see, for instance, a couple having dinner at a restaurant, and instead of talking to each other, they\u2019re both glued to their phones? These situations happen every day, every minute, every second, and we are often the root cause ourselves, whether we\u2019re aware of it or not. And while it\u2019s true that we live in a technological society in which \u201cthe online world\u201d has an importance we might not have even been able to imagine just a few years ago (we check the news, e-mail, traffic, friends\u2019 birthdays, plans for our daily routines, etc., all online), we must not forget about real experiences, those that fulfill us, that stay in our memories… the ones we have \u201coffline,\u201d in real life.<\/p>\n Our goal for this campaign is to promote the idea that human relationships take work, and that the best way to connect with others is through a good meal and good wine. Leave the new technologies or work to one side for a while, and focus on the moment. Focus on experiencing it with those around you sharing the same table, home, or restaurant. #JeanLeonConnectsYou is a call to connect, but in a more traditional and real way: with friends, smiles, and a good wine, of course.<\/p>\n All of us here at Jean Leon wish you the best for this holiday season and the new year that\u2019s just around the corner.
