For Ramon Pueyo and Eva S\u00e1ez it was clear: they wanted to open a gastronomic space. But they weren’t sure where. They debated between the south of Spain (where she is from) and Catalonia (where he is from). Finally, they decided on the latter. Vilanova i la Geltr\u00fa was the chosen spot. Specifically the old center of town, next to one of the longest ramblas<\/em> or pedestrian promenades in Catalonia. They found a space and got to work with great enthusiasm and conviction. Five months later the renovations were complete, and they unveiled La Petite Mort. A vermuter\u00eda-neotaberna<\/em>, they like to call it\u2014a new take on the traditional wine and vermouth bar.<\/p>\n

La Petite Mort isn’t just another spot that serves vermouth and wine. Ramon and Eva take the concept a step further. La Petite Mort boasts a selection of over 100 wines, more than 20 different cavas and about 60 different vermouths. The ample wine list is top-notch. One look at the chalkboard showing their wine-by-the-glass selection is enough to see that this place really cares about good wine.<\/p>\n

Among the 100-plus wine selection, which is updated from time to time, we find the 3055 range\u2014Merlot-Petit Verdot and Chardonnay\u2014as well as Vinya Gigi. Ramon fell in love with the wines a long time ago. \u201cI know the story behind Jean Leon, and all of the wines are excellent. They never disappoint.\u201d<\/p>\n

La Petite Mort, however, isn’t just about drinking. It’s also about food. Really good food. Generous portions of a wide range of fine products. \u201cWe try everything before we add it to our menu. We look for great products from all around Spain,\u201d Eva explains. For example,\u00a0mojama<\/em>, a salt-cured tuna from Barbate; longaniza<\/em> sausage from Organy\u00e0 or tuna from C\u00e1diz. We could keep going, but then our list would go on forever. Well okay, a couple more: Shropshire blue cheese, spicy aged provolone, bonito tuna cubes, and myriad pickled and smoked delicacies.<\/p>\n

La Petite Mort opened its doors just seven months ago, but it has already become a town fixture, especially among people who love good wine and food. \u201cAll of our customers feel at home here,\u201d Ramon says, \u201cAnd they always get to try something new.\u201d He also insists that customers are \u201cbecoming increasingly discerning and understand more and more about wine.
