What is certain however is that <strong>winegrowing and vinification techniques have reached high levels of quality<\/strong>. We want to go one step further. We want to introduce you to a concept that some of you might not be familiar with. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those more knowledgeable about the wine world will most likely know what we&#8217;re talking about. For others, this will be a new concept. \u00a0We&#8217;d like to introduce and <strong>define the concept of a \u201csingle vineyard wine\u201d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSingle vineyard wine\u201d represents the <\/span><b>highest distinction that a wine can aspire to in Catalonia at this time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In order to obtain this coveted recognition, a wine must meet the following criteria: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The maximum yields permitted for single vineyard wines are often 15{483e5444ab9fc06e19ac83efe1d2198bc64dd97b6326f9ee3936c7b95b1cf489} lower than the limits established for other types of wine by the appellation of origin.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A single vineyard wine must be made exclusively from grapes sourced from vineyards that constitute a winegrowing unit, and the name of the wine refers to the name of the vineyards from which it originates. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of winemaking, the wine must be produced, barrel-aged and bottled by wineries that own the vineyards located on the estate. The winery must be located on the same estate or, in certain exceptional cases, nearby.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to receive the single vineyard wine certification, the wine must have a consolidated market presence spanning at least 10 years with consistent prestige and quality. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>At Jean Leon, we have four wines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with these characteristics. Our wines <\/span><b>Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva, Vinya Le Havre Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva, Vinya Palau Merlot <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> Vinya Gigi Chardonnay<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were the first wines in the Pened\u00e8s, and the second in all of Catalonia, to be recognized as single vineyard wines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This distinction conveys their unique personality, born from the <strong>interaction between the soil, the vines, the microclimate and human effort<\/strong>. The combination of these factors is what makes single vineyard wines, wines of superior quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet our <strong>winery&#8217;s four single vineyard wines<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-684\" src=\"https:\/\/jeanleon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Captura-de-pantalla-2016-06-07-a-las-17.16.01.png\" alt=\"Captura de pantalla 2016-06-07 a la(s) 17.16.01\" width=\"707\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Vinya La Scala<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name La Scala recalls the restaurant that Jean Leon and James Dean opened in Beverly Hills in 1956. A total of 8 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon grow on a hillside at 295 meters above sea level. Planted in 1963, it is the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Vinya Le Havre<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vineyard is named after the French port of Le Havre where Jean Leon stowed away on a ship bound for the United States. Here Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grow at an elevation of 285 meters. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Vinya Gigi<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Chardonnay vineyard named after Jean Leon&#8217;s daughter. It is a 5-hectare hillside parcel at an elevation of 300 meters. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Vinya Palau<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vineyard is named Palau in homage to Santander, the city where Jean Leon was born. In 1941, a fire raged through the Cantabrian capital, destroying several of the city&#8217;s most iconic buildings. Among them was the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palace of Marqu\u00e9s de Villatorre.
